Visa
Many nationalities are visa‑exempt or K‑ETA eligible. K-ETA stands for Korea Electronic Travel Authorization, a mandatory online travel permit for visitors from visa-free countries to enter South Korea. Q. Which airport should I fly into?
Most international flights arrive at Incheon International Airport (ICN), the main gateway to South Korea.
It is located about 1 hour from central Seoul.
Q. Do I need a visa to visit South Korea (Republic of Korea)?
Visa requirements depend on your nationality and the length of your stay. Many countries are eligible for visa-free entry
for short-term visits (typically 30–90 days), but you may have to apply for K-ETA (effective from Jan/01/2026) before arrival.

Q. What currency is used in Korea? Can I use credit cards?
The currency is the South Korean Won (KRW). Credit cards are widely accepted in shops, hotels,
and restaurants. However, it is useful to carry some cash for small shops and markets.
Q. Is it easy to use public transportation?
Yes. Korea has one of the most efficient public transportation systems in the world.
Subways and buses are clean, safe, and punctual.
You can use a T-money or Cashbee card for convenient payment.
Q. Do people in Korea speak English?
In major cities and tourist areas, basic English is commonly understood, especially in hotels, airports, and popular restaurants. However, English fluency varies, so using translation apps can be helpful.
Q. Is Korea safe for travelers?
Yes. Korea is considered one of the safest countries in the world. Crime rates are very low, and public transportation is safe even late at night.
Q. What is polite behavior in Korea?
Some basic etiquette includes: (1) Slight bowing when greeting, (2) using both hands when giving or receiving items, (3) being quiet on public transportation, (4) removing shoes when entering some traditional places and homes.
Q. Is tipping required in Korea?
No. Tipping is not customary in Korea and is generally not expected in restaurants, taxis, or hotels.
Q. Is it okay to smoke in South Korea?
Yes, smoking itself is legal and common, but where you smoke is heavily regulated.
South Korea has strict smoking-control laws, and violating them often results in on-the-spot fines.
You cannot smoke e.g., in public transportation including platforms, busy streets, bus stops, and campus (except allowed area).
